reflection final part 1 and 2
PART 1
Intro Video
For the Introduction Video I have learned that it is possible to post on a blog from just using your Iphone. Yes, I had to send it to my e-mail first, which took several minutes and at times I did not think it went through so I sent it again. Then after it came through, three times, all I needed to do copy it. The copying and video was easy but using my e-mail seemed to give me issues. It sent it but it took forever and I too not have the patience to wait. I was expecting it to send in seconds. I could use this in a classroom for each student to make a small report about themselves on the first week of school so they can get to know one another and know how to use a video post. This would be a form of technology operations and skills for ISTE, formally know as NETS, to demonstrate introductory knowledge and skills, understanding of concepts related to technology.
The TED Videos
This also, to me, would be a form of technology operations and concepts to understanding what teachers do in using these technology standards. To see a teacher let go of his class and let them use their knowledge and understanding of how Africa can work and what Ambassadors can do to help another out was amazing. These children are actually trying to solve world hunger and not just learn about it. Also, a teacher needs to show motivation, a student may have gotten 18 out of 20 wrong but they got 2 right, good job. When a become a teacher I plan on using the TED videos to help me be a better teacher children need to be let go at times and not sitting at a desk. They need motivation which they may not get at home or other places. Maybe using one of these videos in class can also help the students understand something that they may not have fully grasped. I want these students to succeed and so did the teachers in the video and they did a great job on their part.
Concept Map
The standard would be to design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learning. In my concept map I used a lesson plan on reading and how students can use action words and pictures to tell a story and to understand the relationship between the word and the picture. This was not to hard using Inspiration 8 but I do not care much for this program. It was good with using the hyperlinks and pictures but it was a pain to save and to open, there needs to be an easier program or a better way to open and save. I wold not use this particular program in my class but something similar would be prefect. This would mostly be for the older kids doing a essay and they needed to brainstorm, using their main idea and being able to save a hyperlink to go back to the website that seemed to go along with the topic for their assignment. This overall was a fun assignment and it could help with lesson plans.
Do Not Track Me
A standard for this would be the social, ethical, legal and humane issues to model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use. This free download to my computer stops sites from tracking what I do and it is a shock on how many sites do this. It was hard to download to my computer because it is an older one and it had to be updated a few times before it finally downloaded completely. I need a new computer but now that I have this it doe stop many sites from tracking me and possibly pushing pop ups into my screen. This is a good lesson to show and teach students how the internet can be used for wrong purposes and how they can protect themselves and other while they are online. This is a good tool for any school to use as well so they won't have trackers able to get into the school system or tell what they are doing.
Augmented Reality
ISTE for this would be to facilitate technology enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards. Augmented reality is a learning instrument for any subject in school or even outside of the classroom. There are many apps for a phone or tablet that can make a student see star charts or have a picture, like the Mona Lisa, pop out and talk through the app about its time period. Most of these apps are not free and range from $1.99 to $4.99. It seems that with a school having tablets they cannot get free apps that they need for their lessons. If a school can come up with a budget for apps, this would help out teachers. This is a great tool to teach students with, seeing pictures talk, stars above, and many other great uses for these apps, it will get students interested more in learning than sitting at a desk and listening to a teacher talk.
Voki
ISTE for Voki would be to apply technology to develop students higher order skills and creativity. Voki is a simulated teacher that is able to talk to parents and students. A teacher can create this to help with the first day of school. It was hard to come up with what to say and how to address parents that a teacher has not met yet. Thinking about what teachers have said to me in the past and what my children's teachers say to me now did help with the writers block. I am not sure if I would use this in a classroom. I would much rather talk to them face to face or a phone call. With a computer based teacher it seems like the teacher is scared to talk to anyone. I would use Voki as a last resort or if I was sick.
2.0 sites
ISTE to use technology enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards and identify and use technology resources that affirm diversity. This assignment has shown me that there are so many different websites that a teacher can use in the classroom. It can help with a lesson or connect a teacher with students or other teachers. There were some sites that were no longer available or they did not seem like a good idea to use because students can look up some stuff that is inappropriate. There were also a lot of pop ups on some sites that a student could click on and could bring about viruses. So in a classroom these sites would not be used altogether. If I decided to use these sites for my classroom I would only pick the appropriate ones and ones that can connect teachers and students. Also the ones that help with presentations will be a good tool for older students to use.
Website Created
Is a design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners. There are many places to create a website but using Google seemed like the easiest since it was free. A teacher can make a website about anything he or she wanted to help out a class. In the beginning this website was hard because it wasn't easy to navigate. Some links that needed to be saved wouldn't or it did not turn out quite like I liked it. In the end it was not as hard to fix the little here and there since I now knew how to go about managing it. I could use this to make different sites on history or math to help students with these subjects, but this would be a last resort or backup to a lesson. If I felt it was necessary to use these sites I will but it will not be the first thing I go to to teach.
Movie
Plan for the management of technology resources within the content of learning activities. This seemed like a fun thing to use in a classroom. A teacher can create a movie to go along with her or his lesson, like if they are teaching about trees they can show pictures of different kinds. There can be a title page but no end page, which seemed stranged. The only problem I came across was trying to put music with the movie It seemed that every time I saved the file I could not find it in the computer to put it in the movie. I then went home and found out how to do it on my own laptop, whiched seemed do much easier than in the classroom, I'm guessing their computer are set up differently. I would use this in a classroom for younger students to go along with certain lessons, for say the seasons or nature like threes mentioned earlier. This would only be used as a helper in a lesson.
PART 2
Final Reflection
In this class I have learned a number of things that a teacher can use with technology. I have learned to make a blog, a website and I simulated teacher, all of which I can choose to use in my classroom. I have learned that using a blog is a good tool in connecting people together but it connects everyone, so students will need to be aware of this. Making a website is much easier than I thought it could be, but one has to be mindful of who they are directing it too. I have also learned that there are so many websites that a teacher can use to integrate technology in the classroom and help with enhancing everyday lessons for her or his class. With the common core I have seen the bad side and the good side but there seems to be more downs about this new program than up. There are many weaknesses for me in this class and it mainly using a computer. I did not grow up with one in my home and my school only had computer lab once a week, but I am learning how to become a pro at it everyday. Understanding how to use a blog was the first thing we did in the class, I personally do not approve of having a blog because there is so many people out there that use this to blast others and I think it is childish. I do not like new programs because I am used to one way and do not like learning another but I know that I have to adapt to new ideas because things change on a daily basis. My string areas in using a computer id presentations. This maybe the only thing I am good at, besides typing, because I have used this multiple times throughout high school and college. In almost every class I had to do at least one power point presentation and they now come naturally to me. The things that we had to do in class were all new to me so they will be something I need to improve on and understand a bit better in order to use them. I want to be able to have time to play around with these sites and different programs to get the idea and feel of using them and to use in a classroom. I plan on finding out what my strong points are and finding what websites and programs work best for me. Use them to create better lesson plans and more exciting learning opportunities for my students. I personally would not use blogs in a classroom, I would use one of the sites we looked up to have classroom discussions and only open to the class, not to the entire world. This class has helped me understand a little more about what computers are capable of and that as a future teacher to not be scared of using them in a classroom.
