A conversation with a "bad" teacher
In this interview is a man who wanted to become a teacher and how it did not turn out the way he hoped it would. How school systems and administration are ignoring the need of the students and concerning themselves with stats of each student to make them and the system look like they are doing a good job. This interview was a big eye opener for me and it showed how some schools will do anything to make them look better than the district next door. Mr. Owens talked about how everything he did was looked down on by the principle, when he wanted to help students with family issues that were being brought out in writing stories they blew him off. How he thought that going to a 2 day class was a waste of time and wanted to be with his students upset her. No matter what he did she never approved, if a student didn't speak fluent English by the end of the day or if they had ADHA and wasn't still while learning he was a bad teacher. This is a prime example of how horrible school administration can be. It is not the teachers fault if a child has only managed to learn a few words of English but he's learning that's a step in the right direction. If a child had ADHD have him help more with the teacher have him or her hand out papers or something to keep him or her going that's working with the student not against. It is very hard to be a teacher when no matter what he or he does it is wrong in the eyes if the principle but these are the teachers who stand out and help not ignore an hope it goes away. I am very ashamed as a future teacher that it has come down to this, maybe not here, but in places like New York to use the students progress for a better check and not actually caring for the student. I believe that if a person wants to be in administration they need to be he's but compassionate and understanding being a teacher is a demanding job in itself they do not need disapproval from higher up they need help that is what they are there for.
Kids can't compute
This article talks about back in the day when computers first came out people had to do so much in order to save a file. They never use an app to help with a paper they actually went and doin it then typed it up. They had to memorize programs to help them find saved files and many steps in order to complete anything. Today kids are not taught this. They have it done for them already. With the new windows 8 or with a Mac all the steps are already in the system an they do not have to go about knowing this just click the save button. They live in a day of apps where things are done for them not do it yourself. There is no longer computer skills to learn when programs are built for it. This article also states that with decrease in knowledge kids are less likely to understand how Facebook keep records and that the snapchat picture still remains. When they graduate from high school it states that a student should be able to build their own computer and know how to work out every problem that may occur
I do think that students should have an understanding about how a computer, tablet, or cell phones works this will help them be more protectant of their personal identities and information. Knowing how to fix issues with a computer that's going insane but I do not think every child should know how to build a PC. Like me, there are so many kids who do not have the patience or skill to learn how to build a computer, yes many school have technology classes, which are great, but have it as an elective. Kids today are needing to know how to use programs to be college ready building a computer seems to be taking a step away from this common core and what they want students to know when they graduate.
From advisees
I think this article hit it on point. Teachers today are not taught how to use technology in the classroom so they seem to blow it off altogether. Teachers need "a modeled practice", where someone comes in toshkent hem how to use SAMR and help to pair this with the new common core. Showing teachers the use of multiple browsers and saving and editing is now key to teaching.
Teachers today need to know how to use a LMS, one that there school will allow and to teach students how to use one so when they go to college they will already be prepared on how to use one if these devises. I personally never knew what blackboard was until my 3rd semester at pearl river and it was a challenge to figure out. I think it would be a good idea to use this for at least submitting essay for students so they will get a feel of how it goes.
Students bringing their own devises seems like something a teacher should cautious of because there are so many different programs like Apple, Microsoft, android that using all of this will be different for each studen and harder to maintain. Maybe there should be a "free day" for them to BYOD but do not rely on this some students may not even have a devise.

Erika:
I like the idea to get students to understand the elements of a story and for them to pick it out of a story. Will this board really help with second graders or do they need more hands on approach.
Jacqueline:
I like the idea of picking out words that they do not know and be able to look them up. Having games for vocabulary is a great idea but how will this teach them to use and understand words in a story. Games are a great idea for class but not every lesson they need structure.
Mary Katherine:
I like the idea of them watching a movie and seeing you read but how will this be interacting between the student and the lesson. The bear put together lesson is a good idea.
Jennifer:
Science is always a fun lesson it can get eery child involved. Learning about the world and its biomes is a great way for them to understand the world where they live and other places. This is a good lesson plan. Not sure if acting like the animal is a good idea may get out of hand.
Amanda:
Teaching a child to type a paper is a big step. How is acting out a chapter in a book helping to type? What is context clues, do the children already know, has there been a lesson on these clues already? The game activities are good I like bringing tv games into the class since they know how to play.
Jordan:
will they be bring the book home with them? Going over the book is good, doing a hurricane book is a good informational book and this will help them vear away from the fictional books. Showing the hurricane and what mother nature can do is good. What subject would this be under though. Groups are always helpful for students. The experiment idea is great.
Johnathan:
A war lesson is an all time favorite. Teaching a war lesson can be hard with so many political issues these days but history needs to be taught. Having the main points in the war taught is great, got to have them in order. Also need to have your information known personally. Have the kids make a book of drawing from all the major events with information.

Educause sprint
In this article it talks about how schools need to move forward in innovating technology in the classroom. Schools now, well have been, using the internet for classes and how a student can have his or her class online. But it talks about going beyond that, to use technology in a classroom and letting a student learn from this technology. Today's students are a different generation and they are already socially connected, why not use this in learning it seems to work for others places.
I think that in this article it points out some really good ideas in innovating technology that students already use in the classroom, to help them learn from something they know how to use. It will help them achieve a higher education and because corporations use tho kind of technology they will be ready for the real world and it's job opportunities. Yes it will be hard to get every school district on board with this and some do not have the funding for it but we can slowly start to help are students become technology savvy.
