A conversation with a "bad" teacher
In this interview is a man who wanted to become a teacher and how it did not turn out the way he hoped it would. How school systems and administration are ignoring the need of the students and concerning themselves with stats of each student to make them and the system look like they are doing a good job. This interview was a big eye opener for me and it showed how some schools will do anything to make them look better than the district next door. Mr. Owens talked about how everything he did was looked down on by the principle, when he wanted to help students with family issues that were being brought out in writing stories they blew him off. How he thought that going to a 2 day class was a waste of time and wanted to be with his students upset her. No matter what he did she never approved, if a student didn't speak fluent English by the end of the day or if they had ADHA and wasn't still while learning he was a bad teacher. This is a prime example of how horrible school administration can be. It is not the teachers fault if a child has only managed to learn a few words of English but he's learning that's a step in the right direction. If a child had ADHD have him help more with the teacher have him or her hand out papers or something to keep him or her going that's working with the student not against. It is very hard to be a teacher when no matter what he or he does it is wrong in the eyes if the principle but these are the teachers who stand out and help not ignore an hope it goes away. I am very ashamed as a future teacher that it has come down to this, maybe not here, but in places like New York to use the students progress for a better check and not actually caring for the student. I believe that if a person wants to be in administration they need to be he's but compassionate and understanding being a teacher is a demanding job in itself they do not need disapproval from higher up they need help that is what they are there for.
