Homework Assignment 2:
This article talks about how common core does not do anything for a student. How in New York test score dropped dramatically. How the Obama Administration is using money as a way to make these schools use common core because they are having budget cuts and with more government financial help they are literally being forced. It states that is does nothing for a student or for "national security". Common core seems to discourage children to learn and may feel like they are not smart enough to even try. It shows how bring the common core to school confuses school's priorities.
I completely agree with this article, what will happen to every student across the U.S. when this fully comes into effect. There will be a dramatic drop across the board, in every classroom, showing how common core in nothing but a flop. But with school being cut out of funds many are seeing common core as the only option, which is wrong its like twisting someone's are in order to get what you want and that is exactly what the government is doing to public schools. Also why is the federal government getting involved in school curriculum, when according to the article it is "forbidden"? They have not really gotten involved much until now so why the sudden interest to step in. What has the Obama administration said or done or want to be done with the minds of our children, it seems not only are they trying to racially divide this nation but to brainwash our children. The question is why, why do they want to destroy everything that many people worked so hard to accomplish? what is really going on?
You hit the main points in your summary. Very good.
ReplyDeleteI agree Brittany, it is scary to think about what will happen to schools and to students. I am afraid that the drop out rates will soar. Also, I complete disagree with the way the government is approaching the standards. Bribing schools or in your words, "twisting their arms" is not effective at all. I don't feel that is fair to cut funding for schools and then magically have an incentive for a program that just happens to be a favorite of the government. You ask a good question, what is really going on? In my opinion, they need to have standards that are developed by current administrators and educators working in the field. They have the most experience and truly know what will benefit the students sitting in their classrooms. I think the problem starts with the fact that the standards are developed by third parties.
ReplyDeleteBrittany, I liked how straight forward you were when addressing the problems and concerns with these new standards. I find it so hard to understand why states would adopt these without any evidence. You know this cannot be good, if the main incentive for these standards is the money. Like you said, it's a shame that money has such an influence on our decisions. Seeing the drop out rates increase will be a disappoint and a surprise for many. Hopefully some revisions will be made to better these standards.
