21st century skills

In this article is talks about the 21st century model or education.  How in the United States, we are lacking the essential skills in order to work in the 21st century, that students are not being taught how to become working adults to achieve a higher goal of employment opportunity. The article explains how the world is changing and jobs there were essential in the 1980's or older were easy line jobs that are now being replaced by machines.  There needs to be people who need to run these machines and create better ones for tomorrow.  In the reading it also points out how U.S. schools and students have not adapted to all of the changes in the world and that we have a high drop out rate and most end up in a burger joint. There is a program out called PISA that assess students and their ability to learn and figure out problems for themselves.  Not having to be told to memorize things that but to learn concepts and understanding, that when they see a math problem in a certain sentence they know how to work it. The 21st century education should be the new framework for students k-12 that will prepare them for college and the work force.  Being able to do a job without the supervisement of a manager is what companies want and students need to be prepared to solve and adapt to anything they incounter. 21st century defines all the skills needed to become sucessful in the 21st century.

After I read this article it shocked me to know how much the U.S. has fallen behind in education, that these students should be taught the fundamentals of how to adapt to any work environment plus be able to keep up with the changing times.  It is a scary thing to sit and think about how far behind we really are, 12th in the world, behind a country that is a 10th of us.  I believe the schools system should be taking a few pointers from them.  Yes there does need to be a change in education for our children and our children's children.  With the government corrupt and big time jobs in demand we have to do something about it.  Also there needs to be a stop to government aid for the folks who refuse to become something, if they are a drop out only they need is the burger joint job.  They all need to succeed but they also have to be willing to do so.
